10 years as a model

Exactly 10 years ago, June 1998, I made my foray into modeling. I was seventeen and fresh out of secondary school.

I heard about a casting taking place at Eko Hotel, V/I, Lagos. At the time I had no idea what modeling was all about...actually thought it was a beauty pageant. I remember thinking back then that I was quite beautiful. So got there with a friend of mine and couldn't believe what I saw. There were over 300 tall, beautiful, well dressed girls. Never seen so many beautiful women in my life. I was so intimidated and I remember looking at myself in the mirror, thinking '...and you thought you were beautiful?...' lol

My friend wanted us to leave but I decided to go through with the casting even though I was convinced I wasn't going to get picked. I just wanted to enjoy the scenery, the girls, the hotel and I wasn't leaving till I'd seen enough.

There were over 300 girls, professionals at the time and they only needed 20 models. 17 year old Linda, 5'8', no modeling experience whatsover stood no chance...or so I thought.

The casting director, Juliet Haggermann, was an American Choreographer, who didn't know who the top models were, so she didn't pick based on that. She would look at you, ask you to walk and either ask you to stay or leave.

My friend went before me, and she wasn't picked. I remember giving her my bag, thinking I will be out the door as soon as I got in, so we can go home together. But I was wrong. Juliet took one look at me, asked me to walk and told me I was in.

That was how I became part of the biggest show is 1998. THE SILVERBIRD INTERNATIONAL FASHION SHOW. And made my first cool cash at 17...

My first runway show. The Silverbird International Fashion Show which featured two American designers

After this show, I was declared model of the year...2000. We won designer of the year for Megitto

After this picture hit the press, people took notice of me, I started signing autographs (I don't do that anymore...people no remember me again...lol)

And this was my last fashion show in 2005. Red, Bold and Jazzy.

I miss the runway so much. But hopefully when our Top Model Search starts, I will do runway again. I've decided to do photography again, so soon y'all will see me on billboards across Lagos.

So that's it. Ten years as a model. It's been an incredible experience.

If you want to see more of my modeling pictures, check it out here...http://lindaikeji.blogspot.com/2007/05/got-ya-linda-ikeji-pictures.html

I'm about to enter another phase..Watch out for this woman!

Woman Gets Two Years for Aiding Nigerian Internet Check Scam
A Washington woman was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison and five years of supervised release for her role in an Internet counterfeit check scheme.
Edna Fiedler pleaded guilty in March to attempting to defraud U.S. citizens in a scheme known as a Nigerian check scam.

Fiedler helped her accomplices in Nigeria send fake checks to people who had agreed to cash the checks on behalf of the sender, keeping some of the proceeds and sending the rest back.

The Nigerians found people willing to cash the fake checks via e-mail. They would send their names as well as fake documents that looked like Wal-Mart money orders, Bank of America checks, U.S. Postal Service checks and American Express traveler's checks to Fiedler. They told her how to fill out the checks and where to send them.

The recipients most likely thought they were helping out someone who needed a person in the U.S. to cash a check for them, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. They were able to get the money by cashing the checks, and sent most of it to either Fiedler or her Nigerian accomplices. However, once the checks were discovered to be fake, the people who cashed them were responsible for the full amount.
All told, Fiedler sent out US$609,000 worth of phony checks and money orders. When U.S. Secret Service agents investigating the case searched Fiedler's house, they found additional fake checks worth more than $1.1 million that she was preparing to send out.

At a recent conference in Seattle, a representative from the U.S. Postal Service and Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna described ways they're working to shut down these kinds of scams, particularly because they often involve people who don't realize that they're taking part in illegal activities.

The U.S. Postal Service recently sent 15 postal investigators to Lagos, Nigeria, and during a three-month period there, they helped intercept counterfeit checks, lottery tickets and eBay overpayment schemes with a face value of $2.1 billion, Chris Siouris, a cyber investigator at the U.S. Postal Inspector, said at the recent conference. Siouris, McKenna and others are pushing for ways to better educate Internet users so that people don't unwittingly help out in these kinds of e-mail scams.
I'm out...see y'all later.
Cheers

The type of brodas who turn us off by Doreen

Someone sent this to me as an article for my mag's next edition. I love it! And thought to share with you guys. It's definitely coming out in the mag, but you guys can have a first glimps...
Enjoy and tell me what you think about her perception of men...

Cocktail of Men...the type of brothas who turn us off! By Doreen. (Who actually is a famous blogger...u guess the blog name...ain't telling o..lol)

I have called London home for the past 6 years, and the one thing I appreciate the most from this cosmopolitan city is the diversity. There’s people from different parts of the world, every continent and being able to mingle in the midst of these people, has made me appreciate different cultures, foods and most importantly men. There are so many but so few men as well. I do have a certain type of men that I’m attracted to, the suave, debonair, well-groomed type, who are ambitious and driven. Then there are the types of brothas that are turn-offs and well with my girls we came up with quite a list of the guys of these guys that just make us want to scream and shake them up a bit.
Here goes the list:

1. Mr Lousy. This type of guy will talk about his bedroom skills, get you all hot and bothered, fantasizing and all that BUT once you get down to it, he really doesn’t know jack. He’s the type of brotha you don’t want to be with after you’ve had a long dry spell because you feel like castrating him. And he could also be Mr Too Small, Mr Come To Quick and Mr Cant Kiss

2. Mr. Brag-a-lot. All he seems to talk about is I got this, I drive this, I live in the suburbs, I make so much money, and all that jazz. Now don’t men know that its the fickle minded females that are actually impressed by this? I wouldn’t care whether you drove a Bentley or rode a BMX, seriously, its your gray matter thats important and whats in your heart.

3. Mr. Private Lover. He acts like he’s so into you in private, all over you and all that, but in public you’re just another chick he “associates” with. He’s the type once in public will stand close but not close enough, and acts like you just go to the same church or something.

4. Mr Every female that comes up to him is his ‘friend’. Yes, more like he has at least slept with her and now they are cool like that.

5. Mr. My ex hurt me so let’s be ‘friends’ forever. If you not ready to be in a relationship that is perfectly fine but stop stringing woman along. And he also is known to use the line ‘Lets go with the flow’! He can also be known as Mr Commitment-Phobia, he really tries avoid having any definition to what you have, calling you his ‘close friend’ or friend with benefits. He however, will get jealous should you try to get your own game on, expressing how he’s so fond of you, and just needs time to heal.

6. Mr. Texts. He doesn’t answer the phone when you call but will text you asking” what’s up”. This is a pet-peeve for me. What’s wrong with picking up your phone? Its more likely because he just cant ‘talk’ at that point in time, which is always when you call. This is in the same league as Mr Private Number and calls that his ‘business’ number..really dude..do you think I’m buying that excuse??

7. Mr, 419. Yes, I respect a man who hustles but why can’t it be a legal hustle? Since he really cant come up and say he really specialises in the fraudulent financial sector, the new code word is ‘I’m into properties’. He stutters when you show interest in his business ‘acumen’ and pose questions. He won’t even complain about the credit crunch and property devaluing, right??Why is that Mr Entrepreneur?

8. Mr. Stop Completely Calling You but then when he sees you face to face will ask: WHY YOU AIN’T BEEN CALLING ME? Now, if i ever met this man, I’d tell him its the same reason he aint been calling.

9. Mr I live alone. He will tell he has his own place but will always make an excuse when you want to come over because he’s probably living with different women or just his wife.

10. Mr. I coming over to chill at YOUR house. This is the type of brotha who once he realises you have your own place he wants to come over, thats no problem, but there’s the type who doesn’t take you on no kind of date and sees him coming to chill over at your place as the date ALL the time he comes over. He’s also usually Mr No. 9.

11. Mr I Aint Married. He will say he’s just going through a divorce, him and his wife now sleep in separate room, and just talking because of the children. His divorce will never come through and as silly as this might sound many a females have been his victim. He’s also could be No. 9 and 10 put together.

12. Mr. Liar (about E-v-e-r-y thing) some people just lie for nothing. The worst part is when you find out the truth. In this day-in-age where information is just a google away, why don’t they know that we can find out the truth?

13. Mr Dont Want a Woman With Children-But has three of his own with three different women.

14. Mr Philanthropic. He’s the one guy who doesn’t hide his flirtatious activities, even flirts with your friends and sleeps with any female if she lets him but tries to act like he got such high morals when it comes to women.

15. Mr. You think you’re too good for me? He’s the one who tries to demean and disrespect you just because you have DENIED to give him your number.
Now, I’m not saying London is full of just these 15 types of men, no sir. There the eligible, downright, honest, proud-to-be your man type of brothas and to all those who have them I say hold them dear and appreciate them.

So ladies, what do you think? She got it right or right or right? lol

AGN on Eucharia Anunobi's Outfit + DJ Abass Looses Dad

Actor's Guild of Nigeria cautions sultry Actress, Eucharia Anunobi on clothes worn in public

Here's what Stella Dimoko-Korkus wrote on her page in Encomium Magazine this week...
"The fire that was ignited by the dress this actress wore to the last Nigerian Music Awards is yet to settle down. The lady has also told all those who care to listen that however she chooses to dress is her business. But the Actor's Guild of Nigeria is making a mountain out of a mole hill by cautioning this adult on the dress she wore. Is the work of AGN now fashion police? Are members of this committee blind to the problems crippling the movie industry or are they just loafers without direction? Please they should face their job and leave anyone who decides to go naked all in the name of fashion and the AGN has no right whatsoever being a fashion police. The actress is an adult and so is anyone else who bares it all. AGN mind your business."

Reading this and another similar article in a different magazine, I just couldn't help but shake my head in wonder. Does AGN have the right to caution their members on dresses they wear? Impose a moral code of dressing? We are talking about adults here eh? Eucharia should be in her mid 30's? And you caution her on her dressing? Is there anything wrong with that?
I remember the ban on Ini Edo a couple of years ago because of her outfits and the only explanation they gave then was that it's for the good image of the industry. Actresses shouldn't portray themselves or Nollywood badly via clothes they wear. But seriously, is that something AGN should concern themselves with? Aren't there other pressing matters to attend to?
I ask again, does AGN have the right to caution actresses on clothes they choose to wear?
What do you guys think?

Be Grateful

Today I went to see my landlady at the Ikeja High Court. Passing through, I saw many families huddled together, talking in groups with a lawyer or two in their midst. You could see the look of despair on their faces...a few were openly crying, some quietly doing so...

As I was about to enter my car, I saw this very young guy of about 25/26, being helped down a black maria. (Vehicles used to convey prisoners). He was handcuffed. Immediately he came down, some people waiting on the side tried to come near him, but the armed guards warned them off as the young guy was led into the courthouse followed by the people I suspect were his family members…all looking sad and disturbed.

I stood there speechless and watched them till they all disappeared into the court house…I dropped the can of soda I was drinking in a trash can, and sat in my car for a minute or so...thinking. The boy obviously was there fighting for his freedom, for his life…the life you and I take for granted.

I drove out of the courthouse a short time later, (of course promising never to willingly visit a place like that again…it’s too depressing) thinking this guy will trade places with me in a minute. I have life and the freedom to live that life the way I choose to, but lately I’ve been concentrating on things I don’t have, and looking for means to acquire them. But now looking at this guy and the other families, I looked up into the heavens and mouthed Thank you God!
All that I have and all that I am is enough for me...more than enough for me...from now on!

There’s so much you and I take for granted. So many things we loose sight of, caught up in the struggles of life. Things we regard as important when they really aren't. Things we cry about, worry about, fight about, lie about. People we are jealous of, try to run down. We make issues of unimportant stuff and waste time and energy on things that don't really matter instead of concentrating on things that matter...like life, love, happiness, peace of mind.

Here are the most important things to be grateful for ...

If you close your eyes at night and open it in the morning…be grateful. Because there are those who were not that lucky.
If you have love around you…be grateful
If you are healthy, mentally and physically…be grateful
Apart from this, everything else is secondary…

You know why? Because there’s nothing greater than being ALIVE, and nothing more beautiful than having LOVE around you. And nothing keeps you going as being healthy.

It doesn’t matter whether you are rich or poor, educated or an illiterate, beautiful or not. Married or not, kids or not, famous or not. If you have everything you want, good for you. If you don't, SO WHAT? We make unimportant issues define our lives when it really shouldn't. It’s when we attach so much importance to this things that we are so lost, 'cos when we don’t have them, we seek, when we don’t find them, we cannot be happy and when we are not happy, how can we be grateful? Gratitude is the key to a happy life, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy because we will always want to have something else or something more. We will never be satisfied.

You find that most of us are jealous and envious of things and people irrelevant. We fight, we steal, we backbite, we are nasty to other people, we hate, we go after money, we make ourselves unhappy. If we look closer, we will find that some of our family members or friends we grew up with are gone. People we used to know are no longer here...someone we saw yesterday, is no more today. There are people fighting to live in hospital beds, there are dead bodies in mortuaries., there are people locked away in prison. But you and I are here writing, reading, exchanging views and we are not grateful for that ?

Be grateful for the smallest, simplest things. Be grateful that you can see this beautiful world, that you can hear your children's laughter, that you can speak with your loved ones, that you can understand when people speak to you. Be grateful and don't grief for the things you don't have but rejoice and be thankful for the things you have.

And remember there's someone somewhere who will trade places with you....in a second. So be grateful

If everything I've written here means nothing to you, then look at this man...

...and be grateful.

Even in the midst of something some of us will consider impossible to live with, he's still smiling. Because to him, it doesn't matter that half his body is gone...he's just grateful to be alive.

If you think you have a reason to be unhappy, think again!
You have absolutely no reason.

Be grateful! Always!
Cheers.

Naija Entertainment News

I'm going to quickly give you entertainment gist courtesy Encomium magazine. Will get you the City People gist later...

"2face's African Queen is my song"...Orlando Julius
Veteran musician Orlando Julius, one of the pioneers of Afro high life music in Nigeria recently spoke to Rebecca Akinkunle of Encomium about 'African Queen' controversy...
It's a long interview but I'll extract the part of where he says tuface's song is kinda his...
2face's song, African queen, we learnt that the tune is originally yours?
Orlando "Part of the melody pf my song called 'Igbeyin Adara' which was first recorded in 1960 in Ibadan. OJB Jezreel, a producer was working with my wife, Latoya Aduke. I was able to meet him. He had been close to us, he loved a lot of my music, being oldies, Nigerian music and Afro highlife. He used some of the music of Igbeyin Adara to produce African Queen for 2face. I don't even think 2face knows it, but it's true. If it's in America, with that happening, he will give the American artiste that has that music credit on the particular song"

Did OJB Jezreel take permission from you before using it?
Orlando "No, but after he used it, he confessed to me that he used it. He didnt lie. Even at that I like him, he's a nice boy, he didnt give me credit for it, though he didnt steal it. The same B flat that I used to write Igbeyin Adara and the same guitar used for the intro was used for African Queen"

How do you feel about it?
Orlando "I feel good about it, but the only thing is for the kids to acknowledge whatever beats they take from the music of elders. So that the world can know you got this from this. We are not calling lawyers to sue anyone. Maybe if 2face finds out, he will probably feel very bad..."
And wife speaks..."That's the song that gave 2face the big break..."
2face buys N37m house in Festac
2face has acquired a new house on 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos, which insiders allege is the fourth property of the singing star. He moved into the house last month. before now, the singer lived in a popular hotel, Comfort suites. The management gave him a permanent suite for free which in turn increased patronage and popularity due to the caliber of visitors 2face received whenever he was in the country.
Aside the new duplex he just acquired, he also rented a five bedroom duplex for his brothers and PA. The green duplex is on 6th Avenue, close to Comfort Suites...

My dress: flashy or trashy?

Hi people, what's going on? I want to report my parents to you guys o...lol
See, I'm 27 years old, a graduate, almost 10years modeling experience, I run a company, I publish a magazine, I employ people, I pay salaries! Some people call me madam sef...lol
I'm a big girl right? RIGHT!
But then, I have to sneak out of my house to wear a dress to an event.

I was invited to Mode Men Black Night2 show that held on Saturday 14th June at Lagoon Restaurant. So I went and bought me a dress I felt was classy and sexy. My sisters loved it, but when my parents saw the dress..hmmm...my friends, it was not funny o. They complained the whole day. My mum said 'You're a decent girl, but anybody who sees you now in this dress will think you're one of those girls...it's too tight, it's too short...".
Whatever mum...lol. I kept saying, I'm a grown ass woman, I can wear whatever I like...not in my house my mum replied. I was practically 'forbidden' to wear the dress... so I had to sneak it out of the house and dressed up at my sister's place (where this pictures were taken)
I guess you never 'grow up' to your parents.
So people, this is the dress in contention
Flashy or trashy?

See dem boobs...when I'm ready to pack dem things, I pack them well...
lol...
See y'all later with Naija ent. news

Promised y'all Naija Ent. gist today, but didn't have time to buy the mags. Will try and do so tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I'd like to dedicate this entire post to the King of Nigeria comedy, Ali Baba, who just started his very own blog! I'm a huge fan so I'm thrilled to have a place where I can read his thoughts.

Find his blog here...http://alleybee.blog.com/

Check it out...

Wonder shall never end. This man don kolo o...lol. What does he want to do with a car with diamonds all around it? Can he even drive it on the road? Almost 5mil for a car?
God, give money to those who need it...Amen!
Wetin money go cause...lol!

Joke
Never tease an old woman
Defense Attorney: Will you please state your age?

Little Old Lady:I am 86 years old.

Defense Attorney:Will you tell us, in your own words, what happened the night of April 1st?

Little Old Lady:There I was, sitting there in my swing on my front porch on a warm spring evening, when a young man comes creeping up on the porch and sat down beside me.

Defense Attorney:Did you know him?

Little Old Lady: No, but he sure was friendly.

Defense Attorney:What happened after he sat down?
Little Old Lady: He started to rub my thigh.

Defense Attorney:Did you stop him?
Little Old Lady:No, I didn't stop him.

Defense Attorney:Why not?

Little Old Lady:It felt good. Nobody had done that since my Albert died some 30 years ago.

Defense Attorney:What happened next?Little Old Lady:He began to rub my breasts.

Defense Attorney:Did you stop him then?

Little Old Lady:No, I did not stop him.
Defense Attorney: Why not?

Little Old Lady:His rubbing made me feel all alive and excited. I haven't felt that good in years!

Defense Attorney: What happened next?

Little Old Lady:Well, by then, I was feeling so 'spicy' that I just laid down and told him,'Take me, young man. Take me now!'

Defense Attorney:Did he take you?
Little Old Lady:Hell, no! He just yelled, 'April Fool!' And that's when I shot him, the little bastard.
LOL
