INCIDENT: Burglary
OCCURRED: February 26, 2012 / 3:50 a.m.
REPORTED: February 26, 2012 / 4:23 a.m.
LOCATION: Cumberland Hall / 7th Floor
UMDPS CASE #: 2012-11752

BRIEF DETAILS:
On February 26, 2012 at approximately 3:50 a.m. a female resident of Cumberland Hall was asleep in her bed when she awoke to find a male in her room touching her thigh. Her roommate entered the room and confronted the male. The male stated he entered the room by mistake and then left. It was noticed that the resident’s laptop had been moved and packed in an apparent attempt to steal the laptop. It was learned that the male entered the room through an unlocked door. Officers spoke with other 7th floor residents and learned that other residents had heard the sound of someone trying their door knobs. One resident looked through her peephole and noticed two males who didn’t appear to belong in the building.

The victim and roommate witness provided the following description to police of the first suspect who was involved in the burglary:

5’08” tall, African American male wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt and grey baseball hat.

The second suspect observed through a peephole by a witness could only be described as an African American male who, along with the subject described above, did not appear to belong in the residence hall.

OPC member kills Etisalat employee, Chukwuma Eze, over N10 toll

Late Chukwuma Eze
A suspected member of the Odua Peoples Congress known by the pseudonym “Ultimate” on Monday allegedly killed an employee of Etisalat, Chukwuma Eze, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State during an argument over N10 toll.

PUNCH Metro learnt that N10 toll was collected by the OPC members at a footbridge that links Ejigbo with Ajao Estate.
It was gathered that the deceased told the collectors that he had only N1, 000 denominations with him and offered it to one of the collectors who asked him to come back for his balance.

Eze was said to have agreed but was shocked when on his return a female member of the group insisted that the deceased did not give N1,000 to the collectors.
The telecoms employee was said to have been angered by the denial resulting in a fight between him and the female member of the group.

Sensing that the female member of the group could not match Eze’s strength, “Ultimate,” was said to have brought out an object suspected to be charm and hit the telecoms employee with it on the chest.
Eze, who is to marry in April, reportedly slumped and died on the spot.

It was learnt that immediately words filtered in that Eze had died, his kinsmen in the area carried out a reprisal and attacked some members of the OPC found at the footbridge.

A source told PUNCH Metro that in the ensuing pandemonium, a member of the OPC was also killed, while some motorcycles and a generator belonging to members of the group were vandalised.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone confirmed the incident but said facts about the incident were still sketchy.

He  said, “One Chukwuma Eze was allegedly killed by some people collecting money at a footbridge but we cannot say for sure if the collectors are members of the OPC or the local government revenue collectors.
“The incident caused a stir as some friends of the deceased confronted and fought with the suspects.

“The details of what exactly transpired are still sketchy because the incident occurred at night but another corpse, identified as one Sumonu, was also found at Ajao Estate later. We (Police) do not know if his death is related to Eze’s killing.”

A picture of Erykah Badu with the word Allah written on her bare shoulders has touched off a firestorm in Muslim-majority Malaysia...

Erykah Badu was supposed to perform in Kuala Lumpur today Wednesday Feb 29th but the concert was abruptly canceled on order of the Communications and Culture Minister, who said
"With the graphic exhibition of "Allah" on the body of the singer, it is sufficient to warrant irrefutable religious controversies from among Muslims who disdain such practice. The committee's decision to disallow the entertainer to perform publicly is in our view justified."

#ThePowerList: Top 10 powerful young people in Nigeria’s new media space!

Written by YNaija writer, ‘Ifreke Inyang.
Introducing The Power List:

We present the most influential young Nigerians under 35 in Business, Fashion, Media, Entertainment, Technology and Politics! We’re not talking influence or popularity; we’re talking to power to make things happen beyond their immediate space.

Let’s not even argue this – New Media is where the future is at. And in Nigeria, its stranglehold on our social, political, religious and life and the way it constantly drives the conversation is instructive, if not overwhelming. So, who are those we call conveniently call the powerhouses of New Media? We have a list!

Linda Ikeji:
If you’re looking for the hottest gossip – which guy stabbed a lover to death, which former actress has turned a firebrand evangelist, etc, Linda Ikeji’s blog is where to check. But that’s just half of the story for the lady who worked into the American embassy and got a visa ‘cause they checked out ‘the most influential blog in Nigeria’ and she popped. From #ABSURape to Mercy Johnson, Linda owns the day. You can’t ignore Nigeria’s number one blogger.

Nigeria's No.1 blogger, I love the sound of that. lol. Read the rest after the jump...

Uche Eze:
With elevated language, great pictures and a fantastic site layout, Uche Eze, the woman behind BellaNaija, has set the bar high. She started BN as a blogspot in the late 2000′s but in recent years made it not just a proper fashion site but a profitable business – and she continues to set a standard.

Ogunlesi:
On Twitter, Tolu Ogunlesi, CNN African Journalist of the Year for 2006, is revered – with about 15, 000 followers with whom he shares thoughts on everything from the House of Representatives hearing on fuel subsidy removal to the latest naked pictures on Twitter. With enough followers who take every word he says seriously, Tolu is on to something.

Japheth Omojuwa:
This is the man who made life intolerable for Reno Omokri, Special Assistant to the President on New Media, and the man who crystallizing much of the opposition to the president’s agenda amongst young people. With the lethal mix of a 20, 000 + strong Twitter account and a popular Omojuwa.com blog, added to his sometimes cringe-worthy candour, Omojuwa is king of the click.

Noble Igwe:
A lot of folks were shocked when Noble Igwe, a few years ago, decided to leave his day job at 141 Advertising to start-up 360nobs.com. The website has achieved impressive name recognition for its pop culture serving and with all the supporting events brands and Igwe’s “quotable tweets” have made him one of the men to control what you read on the internet.

Cheta Nwanze:
This is the guy who made 234Next.com into the force it eventually became. Along with a string of other media websites to his credit, Nwanze’s day job as the chief techie at Daily Times has clearly made it clear he has magic at his fingertips. Armed with several on-the-go gadgets and some of the brightest bloggers this technology expert is pushing the media outfit back to its former glory.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde:
This Nollywood diva is the president of ‘Osexynation’. The ‘Osexynation’ clarion call has led more than once to cluttered timelines – but has proven very useful when she has a new movie to promote or a new rumour to debunk. With the distinction of being cumulatively the celebrity with the most friends on Facebook and about 50, 000 + on Twitter, Omotola has power in her hands.
Don Jazzy:
We’re not sure he still has that magic anymore, but there are those who will argue that, at least on Twitter, it’s the Mohits CEO’s world and we are all just living in it. It’s not just his handle though, but his capacity to drive the day’s news cycle online, at least in entertainment circles. His mis-statement over rappers and their parents was one such instance, and it’ll take a few more gaffes (thought he is quickly piling them up) before this man will lose relevance online.

Wale Adetula:
‘Tula, as his friends call him, has come a long way from the times when his SistaSista idea didn’t quite get off the ground. With his Take 2 with TheNakedConvos, this young man has clearly cornered a huge section of the sex-and-relationships market online – with the blog, and events of the same name and his popular new The Writer competition. What’s that thing they say about being original?

Ediong Umoh:
You may not know him if you’re on Twitter, but you know his brand, NigeriaNewsDesk, which has been identified severally as Nigeria’s most influential Twitter handle – with enough Retweets and Mentions to last two lifetimes. An aggregator of news from sources across the world, and now interlinked with such websites as Ascology.com, Ediong is officially in charge of the news.

14 year old boy shoots his mother dead as she slept

                                            Joshua Smith                                  Tamiko Robinson

A 14-year-old boy, Joshua Smith, in the early hours of Monday morning, shot his mother, 36 year old Tamiko Robinson, at least ten times as she slept on the couch, his uncle told reporters after the teenager was arrested.

The teen, from east Detroit, was said to be angry that his mother had tried to keep him off the streets and away from a gang.

Smith's uncle LeShaun Roberts, told Fox Detroit News the teen had wanted to 'hang with the big boys' - gang members in their twenties - but when his mother said no he ran away to relatives. But Robinson, a dialysis patient, who was battling lupus, went after her son and insisted he came home, angering the youngster.

According to the uncle, Joshua broke into his step dad's room, got a twelve gauge and brutally murdered his mother while she slept on the couch in their home.

Joshua's five-year-old sister and step dad, were in the home at the time and were forced to jump out of a low window to escape the gunfire.

Smith was arrested soon after the shooting. He had reportedly been driving around in his mother's car.

Nigerian man sentenced to death in Malaysia for drug trafficking

Eric flanked by Malaysian police
A 34 year old Nigerian man was yesterday February 27th, sentenced to death in Malaysia for trafficking in drugs two years ago.

Eric Chimezie Oluigbo was arrested while trying to distribute 22,159 grammes of cannabis at a traffic light in Napoh, Malaysia, on the morning of September 1, 2010.

A homecoming photo of a US Marine kissing his boyfriend went viral yesterday after it was posted on Facebook. But before you start 'hating', here's what Brandon Morgan, the marine said about the photo
To everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you. Dalan, the giant in the photo, can't believe how many shares and likes we have gotten on this. We didn't do this to get famous,or something like that we did this cause after 3 deployments and four years knowing each other, we finally told each other how we felt. As for the haters, let em hate. We are the happiest we have ever been and as for the whole PDA and kissing slash hugging in uniform...it was a homecoming, if the Sergeants Major, Captains, Majors, and Colonels around us didn't care...then why do you care what these random people have to say? In summation thank you for your love and support.

What is happening on Nigerian Idol? The judges have gone crazy !

The bizarre mix of Jeffrey Daniel, Yinka Davies and Charly Boy is what makes Nigerian Idol the show to beat.

There is the punk king Charly Boy whose antics have given a new name to shock therapy. We all have seen him working a power-bike, we've seen him with make up on and no less than false lashes. We've seen this 60 something year old cry shamelessly and remove his clothes when his favourite contestant left the competition and we have all seen him declare love for one of his contestants and he has begged contestants to slap him!

For Yinka Davies, in season one, this music diva’s strongest feature was her high spontaneous laughter or the way she used to say Aha! It appears that once she is excited, she lets rip one of her many verbal constructions. Here are a couple of her words: “you have dabarued everybody here.’ she told a dramatic performer. ‘You have flabbergastified the whole place’; she told another impressive performer. ‘Blaga bla bla’, she said, when she had no words to describe an excellent performance.

Jeffrey Daniel used to be the coolest judge of all on the show. Jeffrey is well known for his smooth talk and his calm advice to contestants, when Jeffrey says you’ve got it? You definitely have. These days, the Shalamar legend appears to have been bitten by the Charly Boy bug. Last weekend on the show, he warned viewers to vote for Mercy Chinwo. “If you don’t vote the right contestant in, he began, this is what will happen,”.   Then he proceeded to rip off and chew the foam off his microphone to the delight of the audience.

These three are by far Nigeria’s craziest trio on TV.
